"Thank you Australia!" These were the jubilant chants from students from Kemabolo Primary School at the opening of their new library and computer lab. |
A fitting Christmas gift to end the school year made possible through a K72,300 gift from the Australian Government made available through Strongim Pipol Strongim Nesen with the enthusiastic help and support of the school board and administration.
The new building stands proudly amidst immaculately manicured green lawns, clearly the pride and joy of the local community.
The school is the focal point of Kemabolo. Here, the whole community is just as determined as the school administration to ensure that the students excel in their studies. An obvious first step was to improve facilities and with help from the Australian Government they’ve collectively taken ownership of the project and succeeded triumphantly.
"Our school is the focal point of the community. It does look fabulous now with the new buildings. The community has pushed for a lot of things for it over the years and we've also produced a lot of students with great academic acheivements, which helped.” says Vevato Kalogo, the Project Coordinator.
With 90 per cent of year 8 students already successfully graduating to year 9 the school is already a tremendous success but Headmaster Kopi Gwaibo believes that with these new facilities they can go on from strenghth to even greater strenght.
“It'll be fantastic to have these new buildings that the school children can use. If you build a library you not only educate a school but the whole community and the computer lab is opening our doors to the outside world. It'll create so many opportunities and we are very excited” says Mr Gwaibo.
This building will benefit 278 students and twelve teachers as well as the whole community who collectively got behind this project and made it such a success.
