These individuals were featured in themed posters produced by SPSN as GESI Champions for their leading roles and commitment to promoting economic and social achievements of women in the country.
They include Ben Theodore, the Disability Officer with Department of Community Development, Ipul Powaseu, Chairperson of the PNG Assembly of Disable Persons, Anne Kerepia, Executive Director of the Young Women’s Country Association, Isu Oru, Project Coordinator- Family Support and Male Advocates Program, and Monica Otto, Executive Director, Foundation for Women in Agriculture.
They were chosen from organizations and community groups SPSN works with through the program’s key partnership activities like the community development grants scheme and other initiatives and networks which are funded by AusAID through SPSN.
The posters were launched in a ceremony marking International Women’s Day on Friday, March 8, 2013. It was attended by representatives from the civil society, partners, AusAID and SPSN staff at the SPSN head office in Port Moresby.
The highlights of the event were stories, photographs and experiences based on the local theme: “Manmeri wok bung wantaim long strongim meri na strongim nesen’’.
‘‘Working in partnerships is extremely important in achieving outcomes that promote equal opportunities and participation in the campaign and work that call for women’s rights and empowerment’’, said Jeremy Syme SPSN Program Director.
SPSN hopes this movement will evolve into a unique celebration of the women and men that advocate for equal participation and social inclusion in Papua New Guinea through effective partnerships.
Strongim Pipol Strongim Nesen is a democratic governance program implemented as a partnership between the Governments of Papua New Guinea and Australia.
SPSN provides grants and capacity building to organisations promoting gender equality and improving access to health, education and disability services.
