Manuvatave Women Group Launches Poultry Project

Launch of Manuvatave Womens Poultry Project
The Manuvatave Women’s Association in the South Nasioi Constituency of Central Bougainville launched its first ever poultry project on May 3rd, witnessed by representatives from the Australian High Commission (AHC), Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), and the local community.

Jeffrey Kop, Program Manager with the Australian High Commission thanked the women’s group for successfully completing the poultry project.

“This income generating project will transform and develop your communities if it is well managed and must be everyone’s responsibility,” he said.

Chairlady of the group, Jennifer Dauka said the project started in 2005 by widows and had been struggling until they got the funding from the Australian Government through the Strongim Pipol Strongim Nesen (SPSN) Program.

“We are very happy that we were considered for funding by the Local Grant Committee (LGC) and we assure the Australian Government and SPSN that we will continue to manage the project well and assist other women groups in South Nasioi,” she said.

She said they had customers coming from Arawa, Koromira, and even Kongara 1 and 2 to buy the chicken.

“The demand for the meat birds is very high in the area and some business houses in Arawa town have even approached us of the possibility of supplying them,” she said.

Mrs Dauka said this is a very successful project in Central Bougainville and will definitely assist the women and their communities to improve their standard of living.

The Poultry Project was funded by the Australian Government through the Strongim Pipol Strongim Nesen Program at a total cost of K64, 873.50.
